How long do you have to attend?
You generally need to attend a citizenship ceremony within one year of being approved. DIA and the relevant local authority arrange the ceremony and invitation process.
What happens at the ceremony?
You make an oath or affirmation of allegiance and receive your citizenship certificate. The format varies by council. Some councils encourage national or cultural dress, and guest arrangements can differ by venue.
Do children need to attend?
Children aged 13 and under do not have to attend a ceremony. They receive their citizenship certificate without having to take the oath or affirmation.
What should you wear?
There is no single national dress code published by DIA. Local councils may provide their own guidance. A smart standard of dress is sensible, and some councils explicitly welcome national or cultural dress.
