As of this guide's review date, the official fee for citizenship by grant is NZ$560 for an adult aged 16 or over and NZ$280 for a child aged 15 or under. The Government increased citizenship fees on 21 November 2025.
Fees can change
Do not rely on an old screenshot, forum post or saved checklist. Check the official fee page on the day you apply, especially if you have delayed your application for several months.
How you pay
For an online application, Govt.nz says you should have a credit or debit card ready. Paper and in-person routes have their own payment instructions on the application page.
What if you withdraw?
The Citizenship Regulations provide for a 67% refund of the fee paid when an application for a grant of citizenship is withdrawn before initial processing is completed. No refund is payable under that provision after initial processing is completed. This is a technical rule, so confirm your situation with the Citizenship Office before assuming a refund applies.
