Born in Samoa before 1949
People born in Samoa before 1 January 1949 may be able to apply under section 7A of the Citizenship (Western Samoa) Act 1982. The Government provides a separate application route for this group.
Came to New Zealand after 14 September 1982
Govt.nz says a Samoan citizen in this group needs to show lawful entry and the right to be in New Zealand indefinitely. The usual five-year presence requirements do not apply in the same way.
Were in New Zealand on 14 September 1982
Different evidence can be used to prove presence on that date, such as a passport, employer letter or school letter. If proof is difficult, the official page directs applicants to contact the Citizenship Office.
